Discussion in Odesa: Role of youth organizations in development of party system and civil society in Ukraine

Regional Office of Friedrich Ebert Foundation to Ukraine in cooperation with Center of Political Education and Odesa partner organization “New Generation” conducted meeting of Youth political discussion club in Odesa on July 24, 2009 “Role of youth organizations in development of party system and civil society of Ukraine”.

The main issue that was raised during the event was: What can be brought new to political life by new generation of young politicians and youth organizations? Majority of participants paid great attention to the traditional problems of development of youth organizations: lack of finances, lack of support from the state institutions, lack of media back-up of activities. At the same time there was stressed that finances are not crucial factor for successful activities by the organization - everything can be done without money if the issue is really considered to be important by members of the organization. Also, there was underlined by majority of the participants that young generation has to act in different way and propose different values comparing to their older colleagues. Otherwise there is no difference if the man/women running for elections is young or not. Quantity does not matter, quality matters.
