Risks, threats and opportunities for the security in Black Sea region

Regional Office of Friedrich Ebert Foundation in cooperation with National Institute of International Security problems conducted international conference “Risks, threats and opportunities for the security in Black Sea region”. The event took place on September 25, 2009 in Kyiv. Among the participants of the conference there were representatives of expert society, NGOs, research institutions dealing with regional problems from Ukraine and Black Sea region countries. The main issues that were discussed during the event were the following:

State of security and cooperation between Black Sea states at present: what are new challenges and how to tackle them?

Role of regional organizations and international organizations in building regional security; why old schemes did not work?
What are the interests of key international players in the region; role of the European union, US and Russian Federation in regional security and development.
What is the role of civil society development and progress of transformation process in Black Sea countries in developing more secure environment?
What is the role of expert society in resolution of the security problems?
