Different Events for Different Purposes
Workshop on Event Design — Kyiv, 19.-20. October 2009

The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Regional Office organized a training in order to make civil society activists familiar with the organization of interactive events. The aim of the workshop was to offer alternatives to methods of event design which effectively lead to innovative results and actively involve participants.

The participants were introduced to: Future Search («Zukunftswerkstatt»), Open Space and the World Café. Although these events are appropriate for different forms of events, they all share that all views are being considered. Whereas an Open Space provides room for a very open discussion of a subject, Future Search is a guided technique in order for participants to find out their goals and subsequently ways to realize those. The World Café can be part of an event and creates new ideas by building on propositions of others.
The participants at the training were invited to practice the design of all three forms of events by way of an opening speech to an Open Space, working on a question for Future Search and by simulating a World Café. In the end, participants thought about in which events they could possibly make use of the new methods and presented their ideas to the group.
