Trade union leaders and activists from 11 countries, representing the Cultural Workers’ Unions of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan participated in International Conference “Identifying Felt Needs and Developing Strategies around Issues of Decent Work as a Tool for Organizing the Unorganized in Audiovisual Media in Former USSR Countries“.

This conference was organized in Kiev by Friedrich Ebert Foundation in cooperation with Global Union in the media, entertainment and arts (UNI MEI) on September 15-17, 2009. The participants identified the most prominent felt needs of workers in the commercial sectors of broadcasting and audiovisual production, got acquainted with successful practices of organizing the un-organized workers in these subsectors to be found in selected industrialized countries, adopted the Decent Work Charter and Organizing Strategy for the Commercial Audiovisual Subsector, and began charting a roadmap for further collaboration on these issues.
